The dawning of a new year is an important time for many.
A chance to turn over a new leaf and right the wrongs of the previous 12 months, or to build on a good previous year. New Years resolutions are a big thing. Setting yourself a goal to achieve in the next year is a great way to kick off January and to get yourself motivated.
But how do you keep yourself motivated? Well, music is obviously a brilliant way to get yourself pumped and ready for action….not being an exercise doer myself, I personally know nothing about this, but I gather, from observing (not leering) at people doing that “jogging” thing, that listening to music helps you or something?
So, Do you need to look your best for something? Maybe you have a wedding, or a special birthday on the horizon. Do you need motivation to get your act together? Or perhaps you want your employees to work harder! Imagine I’m your personal trainer right now (without laughing), and I’m going to create a playlist that will help you achieve ANYTHING. Well, imagine no more, here it is.
2 Unlimited- Get Ready for This
Dutch Eurodance giants “2 Unlimited” unleashed the behemoth of a track on the unsuspecting public in 1991, and music has never looked back since. I try to listen to this on a daily basis and it gets me in the mood, making me believe that the world is my oyster and that I can achieve literally anything.
Bon Jovi- You Give Love a Bad Name
Getting over a messy break up? Let your ex-partner know that you’re better off without them with this absolute beast of a song. You were promised everything by them, and they let you down, but do you know what? Bon Jovi will make it all better. Part of Barney Stinsons party mix so you know it’s good. Released in 1986 and doesn’t feel dated at all. I tend to listen to this about 11 times a day.
Jimmy Eat World- The Middle
Going for a tough time? Let Jimmy Eat World let you know that, you know what? It’ll all be OK with this 2001 hit “The Middle”.
Jorge Quintero- 300 Violin Orchestra
Create your own movie workout montage with this EPIC track. Imagine loads of cut scenes with you all sweaty, running up a mountain or something, your coach pushing you to the limits before the big fight (I might be thinking of “Rocky” here actually)
S Club 7- Reach
Released in 2000 and I’m unconvinced that music has reached these heights ever since, I mean, how do you improve on perfection? Jo, Paul, Bradley, Tina, Rachel, Hannah and Jon were already a big deal in the pop music world before this monstrous release and this huge hit cemented their place at the high table of musical royalty. Their break up in 2003 was the day that music died.
5ive- Slam Dunk (da Funk)
I’m not really sure what slam dunking da funk actually entails, and I’m guessing it’s pretty nasty. But anyway, Abs and the gang never fail to get me in the mood with this excellent tune. When they ask whether I want to get down and whether or not I want to get funky, the answer is obviously yes. This 1997 exhibition of everything that is right with modern music somehow only reached number 10 in the charts- which I think says a lot about the British public personally.
So there you have it, 6 songs that will literally transform your life in the new year.
